GOSPEL GLEANING PRAYER POINTERS
- It is difficult to see the wicked flourish and be unmoved by it. The Erukula people in India are one of the untouchable castes. They are looked down on by those around them. Often the immoral character of those who are above them in terms of caste, or, who are corrupt in some official capacity at the expense of the Erukula, can cause Erukula folk to question the fairness of life. To see the immoral and corrupt flourishing is hard to bear. It makes one wonder if life is worth it at all. A verse we might use in prayer for the Erukula in this regard is Psalm 119:92. If Your law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my affliction. For Erukula believers, and all believers really, it is one’s joy in God’s word and law that allows him not to perish with envy or hatred or loathing, but to know and trust that God’s law will prevail in the end.
- This week let’s pray for the Sahel region of North Africa. There are eight countries in that region, including Chad and Niger. It includes the Sahara Desert in the north and transitions to plains and grassland in the south. Throughout the region there are frequent shortages of food and water. These shortages are keenly felt and exacerbated by an increasing population. Niger has the world’s highest fertility rate with a median age of 14-15 years of age. Across the region more than a million children are at risk of severe malnutrition. Jihadist insurgent groups, including Boko Haram, are active and millions of families have been displaced from their homes. There are an estimated 592 Unreached People Groups in the area. Give thanks to God for the courageous and faithful disciples working with Global Disciples who are sharing the gospel of Jesus and seeing tremendous fruit despite enormous challenges and dangers. May the Holy Spirit provide open doors for their ministry. “A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man standing and appealing to him and saying, “Come over and help us. . . . [we] concluded that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. [Acts 16:9-10]
