THE SERMON TITLE this morning is All Hallows Eve. In our message today we will make a close examination of 1 Samuel 28. This story is commonly known as “The Witch of Endor” and it’s actually been used to defend necromancy, the supposed practice of communicating with the dead. Was this woman a witch? Did she conjure up Samuel from the dead? Should Christians consult with mediums to speak with the dead? The Bible has much to say about witchcraft, sorcery, and calling upon the dead. Have your Bible ready and explore this fascinating text with me.
PRAYER CARDS – We have an opportunity to pray now for those who will in a few short years be the next generation of parents, workers, leaders, employers, teachers, and who knows what! But they face challenges today, so your prayers in asking God to keep them safe and shape their character is much needed. You will find prayer cards at the Welcome Desk and on the table outside the sanctuary. Don’t forget to remove the top of the prayer card, fill it out, and put it in the parent’s box. If you can’t find a mailbox in the narthex, give the card to the church office and they will be sure it makes it into the right hands.
IT IS LAUNCHED! The Gospel Gleaning outreach to the Erukulu people is finally underway. Shut down until now by the Covid pandemic, activities that were to have been inaugurated in March were launched just this past week. On Tuesday training to be literacy teachers among the Erukulu began for 15 persons. In early October, these 15 teachers will go among the Erukulu to begin their classes. Let’s keep on praying for the Erukulu people and for these 15 in-training literacy teachers.
WE GIVE THANKS for our wonderful pastors! We’d love to show our gratitude (even though we know they don’t like all of the attention!) for the many ways they bless us during the year…please feel free to join them and your fellow members for a lunch after church service on October 11.
