THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Refiner’s Fire. Paul spent more time with the church in Ephesus than with any other church. That church served as the base for evangelistic efforts throughout the wider region.  Acts 20 records the touching, final farewell of Paul with the Ephesian Elders. It’s not too much to say the Church of Ephesus was top-notch. The letter they receive in Revelation says much the same thing, but with a significant caveat. There is a problem. It must be addressed. If not addressed, it could prove fatal. Jesus’ letter seeks to light the refiner’s fire. Little things can become big things. Just ask Solomon.

THE ISSUES & ANSWERS SCHEDULE:

  • Today – Crescent Project – Denny Barger
  • Oct. 20 – Crescent Project – Denny Barger
  • Oct. 27 – Crescent Project – Denny Barger

ONLY NINE WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS and even less until the Leidy’s Church Bazaar! This year the bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 23rd from 9-2. If you’d like to reserve a table, see Donna Frueh ASAP. Space is limited so don’t procrastinate! Call 215-723-4769 or email dsfrueh@comcast.net for more info.

A BIG “THANK YOU” to our Leidy’s Church family for all the prayers, get well wishes, food, and genuine concern after my hip surgery. We are so blessed to be part of such a caring congregation. Larry & Jean Frederick

WANT TO HELP WITH Judgement House without acting or going out at night? Consider donating food for the cast! Sign-up on the narthex wall and tear off the slip. Mark the item “JH” and place in the kitchen by the date shown on the top of the sheet. Look for the sign-up sheet on the narthex wall.

THE MISSION COMMITTEE meets this Wednesday evening at 7:00 in the Conference Room.

THE LEIDY’S CHURCH LUNCH BUNCH LUNCHEON will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The luncheon is open to everyone 65 +. Friends are invited also. An RSVP is needed by November 3rd. A free-will offering will be taken, and after expenses are taken care of the remainder will be given to the Keystone Opportunity Food Bank. Nelda Metzler will be the piano player for our hymn sing. Come out and enjoy some fellowship with us!

JUDGEMENT HOUSE NEEDS: Non-Actors: two (desperately needed) registration personnel (each night), Actors: three adult men (one with lines), Childcare: Need two (each night).

HAVE YOU MADE A RESERVATION for Judgement House? The dates are Oct. 18,19,20, 25,26,27 and 31st between 6-9 p.m. Making an advanced reservation will eliminate long waits in the crowd of walk-ins. Call the church office to secure a spot or go to the church web site to reserve a tour.

LOOKING FOR PLACES to put our Christmas Bazaar signs. If you live in a high traffic area, please take a sign from the church office and leave a note where the sign will be. We only have a few, so we want to make the most of what we have. If you have one from last year, check with the office to get a new date sticker.

STAY FOR THE LUNCHEON that immediately follows our service of worship today. We’re observing Pastor Appreciation Sunday. We get to enjoy a great meal, delightful fellowship, and maybe be able to embarrass our pastors just a bit. They’ll enjoy it and so will you. Join us.

THE CRESCENT PROJECT is underway! Led by Denny Barger, it happens in the Issues & Answers class on Sunday mornings. Are all Muslims terrorists? What do Muslims believe? How can I speak with my Muslim neighbors or co-workers? Does my Christian faith create a barrier between us? These and other such questions will be addressed during the six weeks of The Crescent Project. Denny invites you to come out, find out, and get equipped to reach out.

QUAKERTOWN CONFERENCE on Reformed Theology is Friday evening Nov. 8th and Saturday Nov. 9th. This year’s theme is Worship: The Chief End of Man. Held at Grace Bible Fellowship church in Quakertown, registration cost is $45 p/person, though $35 p/person for students, spouses, or groups of five or more. It’s a great event to get your faith fired up and informed – plus, meeting lots of Christians from our wider area.

COME SEE UNPLANNED, a movie based on the true story of a Planned Parenthood clinic director who became a pro-life advocate in 2009. It is rated R for a scene showing the end result of a medical (as compared with surgical) abortion – that is, the woman takes a pill at home and it induces a miscarriage in a matter of hours. This movie will be shown in the Fellowship Hall at 7:30pm on Friday, Nov. 8th for adults and a week later on the 15th for grades 8-12. A donation of $10 is suggested for adults and $5 for youth. The proceeds will support the In This Time of Need outreach in Colombia. Since concessions will be available, please sign up via the insert in the bulletin or via the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

AN EVACUATION DRILL will take place next Sunday morning. It will occur toward the end of the service. The Safety Committee is seeking to help us be prepared to respond in a calm, deliberate, orderly, and safe fashion should an emergency occur on a Sunday morning. The drill will be only for the sanctuary level, not the Christian Education or gymnasium levels. Many folk have been practicing already; now we all will get to practice!

POP SPOTS EXPLAINED. What is the meaning of POP in our parking lot? It refers to anyone who has difficulty walking but may not qualify for a handicap designation. It is meant to ensure that such persons have the closest access to our entrance. Hence, it may be for a Patient of a Podiatrist, or, a lady who is Poppingly Out Pregnant, or, merely a Poor Old Person. It certainly does not mean Pastors Only Please!

AN INQUIRER’S CLASS BEGINS November 10th. It will meet during the Sunday School hour in the Conference Room. Lasting for six weeks, it is designed to give a complete overview of Leidy’s Church. While not a formal membership class, it is required for those who would seek to be members. To register for the course, contact the church office or speak with Pastor Niederhaus.

A GREAT BIG “Thank you” to all who helped make this week’s Rummage Sale a success. We made a little over $6263.50 and more is still coming in. We are already accepting donations for the next sale. Please note that we do not accept items not in usable condition. Place items in the center of the Rummage Room (on gym level) so that our sorters can keep up with the incoming goods, or call the church office if unsure of the procedure.

FREE TO A GOOD HOME – A love seat and two chairs. You may or may not like the style, you can see a picture of it in the church office. If interested call Jacqui at 215-872-7569. Available after Thanksgiving or thereabout.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE is underway. As part of your daily devotional time, ask God to change the heart of our nation regarding abortion. Pray for individuals considering an abortion right now. Ask God to help them make a better decision. Tuesday, October 22nd is the day Leidy’s Church will be praying at the Planned Parenthood office in Warminster. We are responsible to have folk present and praying from 7am to 7pm. If you are able to be part of that prayer initiative, please call the church office to indicate the time you plan to be there. Also, if you need directions or other help, those friendly ladies will supply it!

PATTERNS OF PRAYER take place the first and third Saturdays of each month. We pray in the morning from 9 to 11 in Rm. 117. Participants are welcome to come and go as schedules permit/necessitate. This Saturday is the third Saturday of October, so we’ll be praying and you’re welcome to join as well. If you have any questions or suggestions for prayer, please speak with Patricia Martindell.

PRECEPT APPRECIATION DINNER – For those who have been part of Precept ministry at Leidy’s Church during the past thirty-plus years – please join us for an evening of celebration on November 2, at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Reservation and $10 per person required for catered buffet dinner are due by this Tuesday. Rsvp gvbowman@comcast.net or denise@leidyschurch.org (Also contact us if you have photos!)
