THE SERMON TITLE this morning is The Crown of Life. If God is God and He is good, why do people suffer, and why are injustices not brought to account? These are common questions for all of us. We wonder about these things. Does God not know what’s happening? Can He not change things? The church at Smyrna needs to hear from God on just such questions, so Jesus’ letter to them does just that. The folk of Smyrna follow in a long line of God’s people that include men such as Naboth and Stephen, both killed by religious judicial authority. 100 years after this letter from Jesus the Smyrnans will still experience violent persecution.

THE ISSUES & ANSWERS SCHEDULE:

  • Today – Crescent Project – Denny Barger
  • Oct. 27 – Crescent Project – Denny Barger

ONLY EIGHT WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS and even less until the Leidy’s Church Bazaar! This year the bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 23rd from 9-2. If you’d like to reserve a table, see Donna Frueh ASAP. Space is limited so don’t procrastinate! Call 215-723-4769 or email dsfrueh@comcast.net for more info.

THE LEIDY’S CHURCH LUNCH BUNCH LUNCHEON will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The luncheon is open to everyone 65 +. Friends are invited also. An RSVP is needed by November 3rd. A free-will offering will be taken, and after expenses are taken care of the remainder will be given to the Keystone Opportunity Food Bank. Nelda Metzler will be the piano player for our hymn sing. Come out and enjoy some fellowship with us!

DON’T LIKE TO WAIT? Neglecting to reserve a tour for Judgement House guarantees a wait at the door for the walk-in spots! Call the church office this week or go to web site to make a reservation.

POP SPOTS EXPLAINED. What is the meaning of POP in our parking lot? It refers to anyone who has difficulty walking but may not qualify for a handicap designation. It is meant to ensure that such persons have the closest access to our entrance. Hence, it may be for a Patient of a Podiatrist, or, a lady who is Poppingly Out Pregnant, or, merely a Poor Old Person. It certainly does not mean Pastors Only Please!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD boxes are available in the narthex. Inside each box are instructions on how to pack the box, what sort of items to include and not include, and other general information you will find very helpful. When your box is filled, please return it to the church. All boxes should be returned by Saturday, November 16th. This will allow time for our people to deliver them to the local collection site. Thanks for your participation in this outreach of hope and help.

FROM YOUR PASTORS: We and our families want to thank the congregation of Leidy’s Church for the many caring cards, encouraging words, generous gifts, and other expressions of appreciation during this month. A special thanks to the Care Committee for last Sunday’s luncheon – delicious, delightful, and . . . pass another piece of that cake this way! We are thankful to serve the Lord Jesus among the saints and sinners of Leidy’s Church. We appreciate you right back! Pastors John, Steve, and Michael.

THE CRESCENT PROJECT is underway! Led by Denny Barger, it happens in the Issues & Answers class on Sunday mornings. Are all Muslims terrorists? What do Muslims believe? How can I speak with my Muslim neighbors or co-workers? Does my Christian faith create a barrier between us? These and other such questions will be addressed during the six weeks of The Crescent Project. Denny invites you to come out, find out, and get equipped to reach out.

QUAKERTOWN CONFERENCE on Reformed Theology is Friday evening Nov. 8th and Saturday Nov. 9th. This year’s theme is Worship: The Chief End of Man. Held at Grace Bible Fellowship church in Quakertown, registration cost is $45 p/person, though $35 p/person for students, spouses, or groups of five or more. It’s a great event to get your faith fired up and informed – plus, meeting lots of Christians from our wider area.

ZION CHORAL SOCIETY will be in concert today at Steel City Mennonite Church in Bethlehem at 3:00 this afternoon.

LOOKING FOR PLACES to put our Christmas Bazaar signs. If you live in a high traffic area, please take a sign from the church office and leave a note where the sign will be. We only have a few, so we want to make the most of what we have.

COME SEE UNPLANNED, a movie based on the true story of a Planned Parenthood clinic director who became a pro-life advocate in 2009. It is rated R for a scene showing the end result of a medical (as compared with surgical) abortion – that is, the woman takes a pill at home and it induces a miscarriage in a matter of hours. This movie will be shown in the Fellowship Hall at 7:30pm on Friday, Nov. 8th for adults and a week later on the 15th for grades 8-12. A donation of $10 is suggested for adults and $5 for youth. The proceeds will support the In This Time of Need outreach in Colombia. Since concessions will be available, please sign up via the insert in the bulletin or via the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

AN EVACUATON DRILL will take place this morning. It will occur toward the end of the service. The Safety Committee is seeking to help us be prepared to respond in a calm, deliberate, orderly, and safe fashion should an emergency occur on a Sunday morning. The drill will be only for the sanctuary level, not the Christian Education or gymnasium levels. Many folk have been practicing already; now we all will get to practice!

AN INQUIRER’S CLASS BEGINS November 10th. It will meet during the Sunday School hour in the Conference Room. Lasting for six weeks, it is designed to give a complete overview of Leidy’s Church. While not a formal membership class, it is required for those who would seek to be members. To register for the course, contact the church office or speak with Pastor Niederhaus.

HOAGIE SALE – Wanna support and help the Souderton High School choir kids earn their way to Disney to perform in the 2019 Candlelight Processional and not have to cook? Homemade hoagies on Corropolese rolls. Available are Turkey, Italian, Ham or Tuna with/without onions. Sorry for the late notice but orders are due in by today to Wendy Radcliff  267-467-9717 or Cheryl Hall 267-228-0543. Cost is $7. Pickup days are this Friday and Saturday.

THE CARE COMMITTEE meets this Tuesday evening at 7:00 in Room 211.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE is underway. As part of your daily devotional time, ask God to change the heart of our nation regarding abortion. Pray for individuals considering an abortion right now. Ask God to help them make a better decision. This Tuesday is the day Leidy’s Church will be praying at the Planned Parenthood office in Warminster. We are responsible to have folk present and praying from 7am to 7pm. If you are able to be part of that prayer initiative, please call the church office to indicate the time you plan to be there. Also, if you need directions or other help, those friendly ladies will supply it!

NEWSLETTER articles for the November newsletter are due in the office by Tuesday. Thank you.
