THE SERMON TITLE this morning is No More Going to the Shore! Would you still want to go to heaven if you knew there was no going down the Shore there? Our text from Revelation makes that case. It says there is no longer any sea, hence it follows there is no shore. What is being described is the new heaven and the new earth. Focus is directed to the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from heaven. The amenities afforded her inhabitants are described in some detail. They are very desirable in all ways. Even more amazing are the building materials used for this city. Something old, something new, something borrowed, but nothing blue.
WE WELCOME BILL TEATE to Leidy’s Church this morning. Bill is a longtime friend (and more recently a member) of our congregation. He also is President-Emeritus of Glad Tidings India, the organization through which we are reaching out to the Erukulu people group in India. He will explain how the Gospel Gleanings program takes the Gospel to the Erukulu and our role in it. It’s simply amazing.
SPIRITUAL COUNCIL meets this Tuesday evening at 7:30 in Room 123.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN BEING BAPTIZED should contact Pastor Niederhaus no later than noon tomorrow. We are planning to include baptism in the service of worship next Sunday.
CONSISTORY meets this Wednesday evening at 7:30 in the Conference Room.
ATTENTION SHEPHERDS OF LEIDY’S CHURCH!! Please check your church mailbox and email for your updated Shepherd list. The reverse side has helpful guidelines to assist you in your service to the flock. During this pandemic of COVID-19, it is a good time to contact your sheep to pray and see if there are any concerns. Thank you and God bless you for your commitment to serve as a shepherd of Leidy’s Church. If you have any questions, please contact a member of the Shepherding Committee.
ELDER PRAYER takes place this Tuesday evening at 7pm in Room 123.
THE MISSION COMMITTEE will meet Tuesday, the 16th of June, at 7pm in the Conference Room. Also, Committee members are encouraged to sign the missionary cards in the office if you’ve not already done so.
PRAYER-POINTERS. Here are two prayer points for this week as we pray for the Gospel Gleanings outreach to the Erukulu people:
- Pray that God will protect the Erukulu people from the coronavirus. As we pray for this people group, we include their physical well-being as part of our prayers as well. Of course, we do pray for the vigor and health of their souls as they begin to hear about the gospel of Jesus.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit to be working in the hearts and minds of the India Bible Literature personnel being trained in Chennai, India, to work among unreached people groups, including the Erukulu people.
A CALL TO PRAY. This Friday evening from 7-9 Leidy’s Church is hosting a time of prayer and intercession. Many (including many of us) are struggling with the pandemic, social turbulence, and ongoing uncertainty about what lies ahead. There will be a time of worship that will lead into a season of prayer as we go to God in a spirit of Thanksgiving, Adoration, Confession, and Intercession. This is a time to seek God together for His mercy, grace, and favor. Please feel free to invite neighbors, friends, and family members to join us as well.
THANK YOU from Verna Bowman: I am very grateful to all for the covering and kind concern during Geoff’s on-going illness – our family appreciates your continued prayer support throughout a very difficult time.
THE RUMMAGE ROOM IS OPENED AGAIN! We are accepting donations for our next Rummage Sale, though not sure of the exact date as of yet, please place your items in the center of the Rummage Room so that our sorters can keep up with the incoming goods. Thank you.
HEAR THE APOSTLES’ CREED read by various families of Leidy’s Church. Each family contributes one small portion, but it is a huge blessing to see and hear. Go to our website at www.leidyschurch.org and scroll down just a bit, next to the What’s Coming Next banner, and on the left you will see a vimeo box titled Christian What Do You Believe. Simply click on that box and it will unroll before you. Our thanks to Barb Gehman who coordinated the effort and put it together in a presentable form. All the staff say Thank you, Barb!
