THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Within the Veil. Everyone’s heard of the good cop–bad cop routine. The bad cop threatens and intimidates, but the good cop listens and encourages. Hebrews 10 is a bit like that. On the one hand it says, “by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.” That’s really good news. Yet, a bit later it says, “it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hand of the living God.” That sounds more like really bad news than really good news! We need to know both statements are absolutely true. It is difficult to hold on to both at the same time. We can only do so by going within the veil.

WE WELCOME DAN ISTRATE and family to Leidy’s Church today. The Istrate family has been part of our Mission budget since 2015. Dan received his Ph.D. from nearby Westminster Seminary, and now serves on the faculty of Timotheus Bible College in Romania as well as doing pastoral work. Beginning this academic year Dan and Ana will have both their kids in college in the US, a long way from Romania. We look forward to hearing what the Lord Jesus is doing in the Romanian ministry.

A CONGREGATIONAL MEETING is scheduled for next Sunday immediately following the service. The purpose of the meeting is to elect Consistorymen. Those men being nominated to serve as Elders are Ken Merritt and John DiLenge. Being nominated for Deacons are Kendall Musselman and Shaun Permar.

THE ISSUES & ANSWERS SCHEDULE for August is filled with opportunities to get informed about God’s work around the world. Here’s the line-up:

  • August 4th – Dan Istrate serving in Romania
  • August 11th – Cathy Sander serving in eSwatini
  • August 18th – Chris Kulp serving with 100Fold in US & Asia
  • August 25th – Joe Gale serving as a Montgomery County Commissioner.

With the exception of Mr. Gale, all the speakers are included in the Leidy’s Church Mission budget. From each of the speakers we will be able to catch a good look at what God may be doing in their part of the world and gain insight on how to pray and support that work.

SLMT – CUCUTA is set to leave in 10 days. Cucuta is where our Luke 19 Project is taking place. Our team members will be able to participate in all aspects of the ministry reaching out to Venezuelan refugees. They are scheduled to leave early on the morning on the 14th and return on the evening of the 21st. They very much appreciate your support and prayers. Thank you!

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP meets this afternoon from 3-6 at the home of Jerry and BJ Kulp, their address is 361 Moyer Rd, Souderton. Main course is provided, but bring along a side dish (salads, coleslaw, etc.) or a dessert dish. Reminder that girls and guys should wear appropriate swimsuits.

WONDERING WHERE Cucuta, Colombia is? On the narthex wall directly across from the middle doors of the sanctuary is a good map – and some other details – that will help you figure it out. Stop and take a gander.

AN ONGOING REQUEST for the Philadelphia Street Missions. This past winter Leidy’s Church was very gracious in providing clothing in the way of coats, socks, blankets and shoes. It filled a need for many people during the winter months, but summer brings a different need. An insert is in your mailbox with a list of items that would make a big difference in the life of a homeless person. Any items you are able to provide can be placed in the boxes in the coat closet. Please call Darlene Schmidt with any questions, 267-373-8918.

THERE WILL BE A Safety Committee meeting from 6:30-7:30 this Wednesday evening in the Conference Room. If anyone is interested, please feel free to join us.

GREATER PHILLY CHRISTIAN WRITERS CONFERENCE will be held August 8-10 at Dock Mennonite Academy. Founded and directed by Marlene Bagnull, this is their 36th year of ministry. A faculty of 42 authors, editors, and agents will present 42 workshops, 7 continuing sessions, and 4 learning labs. Keynote messages relevant to all Christians are free of charge. Friday evening author interviews and book signing. Go to https://philadelphia.writehisanswer.com for more information.

THE AUGUST FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEON happens two weeks from today on August 18th. No agenda, no expectations, just good, simple food and fellowship in the Lord.

REMINDER FOR SLMT MEMBERS – Don’t forget to pick up your passport from the office. Check the table in the Fellowship Hall to reclaim any items you may have left behind, or you can buy it back at the Rummage Sale.

A PROPERTY WORKDAY is scheduled for this Saturday from 8-12. We will be weeding and trimming back some shrubs.
