THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Horsemen of Reality. Have you heard of the four horses and horsemen of the Apocalypse? Today we read the Bible text from which all allusions to those figures find their source. We need to remember these four horses and their riders are what come forth as each of the first four seals of the book in the hand of the One who sits on the throne is opened by the Lamb. There is conquering and war and famine and death. Not one presents an attractive feature. Yet each has been part of reality since man took up dwelling east of Eden. Isaiah will speak to this, as will Jesus to Pilate. Let’s listen.

THE SACRAMENT of Holy Communion will be shared at the service of worship this morning. We invite all members of the church of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament.

SPIRITUAL COUNCIL meets this Tuesday evening at 7:30 in Room 121.

MARCH FOR LIFE 2020 takes place on Friday, January 24th. Leidy’s Church will have a Perkiomen coach taking folk down. Cost is $12 per person. The bus will leave the Leidy’s Church parking lot at 6 a.m. and usually returns between 8:30 and 9 in the evening. A sign-up sheet is posted in the narthex. Youth under 18 years of age must have a responsible adult assigned with them.

CONSISTORY meets this Wednesday evening at 7:30 in the Conference Room.

THE FLOWER CHART FOR 2020 is posted on the wall in the narthex for those who would like to sponsor flowers for our sanctuary. These dates are still available: February 2, June 21, July 26, and November 22, and the 29th.

HERE’S ANOTHER WAY you can help with the Night to Shine event which takes place on Friday, February 7th. We would like to ask our fabulous bakers to provide cookies and bar cookies to serve that evening to our guests. Please, none with peanut butter or nuts, and be sure they are delivered to the Leidy’s Church kitchen by no later than Thursday, February 6th. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the narthex wall.

MANY THANKS to those of you who sent cards to Paul Holloway on his 100th birthday. We were hoping they would be “the icing on the cake” to his immediate family’s 100th birthday celebration, and so it was! Harold and Sylvia Holloway

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NIGHT TO SHINE, an event is held where guests can select like-new formal attire to wear that evening. If you have any adult-size formal clothing in excellent condition such as dresses, purses, jewelry, shoes and/or suits that you would be willing to donate we would be glad to pass them along. Please bring to the church office tomorrow. If you have questions, you may speak with Pastor Steve or Denise Kulp.

ATTENTION 1-5 GRADERS: Please note that iBlast kicks off its new semester this Wednesday. Get yourself and a friend or two registered.

PRAYER-POINTERS. Here are two prayer points for this week as we pray for the Gospel Gleanings outreach to the Erukulu people:

  • Thank God for the Erukulu people group and His purposes for them, including His purpose to penetrate the darkness with the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to put deep, foundational questions in the hearts and minds of Erukulu individuals.

THE NIGHT TO SHINE PROM night is scheduled for Friday, February 7th. In order to make it a great night for our guests and their families, lots of volunteers are needed. If you go to the web site – bucksmont.nighttoshine.com – and click on the Volunteer Registration tab there are descriptions of the roles which need to be filled and details of what is required as a volunteer. If you are not comfortable with signing up to help at the web site, feel free to stop by the church office for assistance.

L.O.L. (LADIES OF LEIDY’S) will be L.O.L. (Laughing Out Loud)  at their January 7, 2020 meeting. We start the New Year off by having a “Joke Night”. Our new President, Phyllis Allebach will be giving her testimony. Please join us for the fellowship, encouragement and a big L.O.L. (Ladies of Leidy’s) laugh. Please read the Ladies of Leidy’s article in the January newsletter to learn all about us!

ANNUAL DINNER & BUSINESS MEETING of Leidy’s Church takes place this Saturday evening. Please fill out the registration form in the bulletin and place in the box provided at the Welcome Desk. At this meeting a budget will be adopted for 2020. A copy of the budget is posted on the narthex wall.

JOURNALING THE JOURNEY – Any time is a good time to begin recording a faith journey, especially in the beginning of a new year and new decade!  Whether you are new to journaling or a journaling-dropout, please join us on Thursday, January 16 and 23 in Room 118 from 7-8:15 to learn fresh ideas on how to create a legacy of faith by writing it down. One of the purposes of keeping a journal is that we don’t let the things we’ve seen of God in our everyday life fade from our heart. An old notebook can become a treasured keepsake. Journals will be provided for this two session workshop. Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4

EXCITED TO BE MEN! is the theme of the Men’s Breakfast taking place Saturday, January 18th. Nate Sims is the speaker. Tony K is the chief cook. The Fellowship Hall is the venue. 8am is the starting time. You – the men of Leidy’s Church – are the targeted group. A sign-up sheet is outside the kitchen on the narthex wall. Get your name on it sooner rather than later.
