News and announcements from the Immanuel Leidy's Church community.

WITHIN THE FELLOWSHIP:

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Sherry Moyer, Levi Smith, Jerri Thompson 27th; Robert Frank, Parker Steve, Mitchell VanDerbeek 28th; Ron Hughes, Dotty Lahl, Doug Lindner, Rodney Shoemaker, Joan Tawney March 1st; Paul Carsley, Harvey Shoemaker, Amber Smith 2nd; Pepito Dee, Diane Gehman, Brandon Kehs 3rd; Juliana Kapusta 4th.
  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Gregg and Tiffany Guerreiro 28th.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Lesson Not Learned. God is a God of mercy. The most significant element in the temple was the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies. It was to provide a means of forgiveness to the people. It was not a carte blanche to sin indiscriminately because there is a Get Out of Jail Free card in one’s pocket. The Mercy Seat was to forgive sins as the people of God sought to follow Him and honor Him with growing faithfulness. Not all learn the lesson of the Mercy Seat. That was true in Jeremiah’s day; that was true in the days of John the Apostle as well. People turn everywhere but to God.

ISSUES & ANSWERS SCHEDULE:

  • March 1        Zach Darrow, CEF
  • March 8        Andrew & Megan Nairn, PCA Mission to the World

SLMT-PIK MISSION TRIP 2020 SIGNUP is underway! The sign-up sheet is posted on the narthex wall. July 9 through 19 are the dates. Mark it on your calendar. No one is too young, no one is too old. Likewise, no one is too skilled or unskilled. You simply need to be a ready and willing worker with VBS materials and kids or with maintenance projects and tools. Seek the Lord, perhaps He wants to use you in this year’s ministry to Canada.

BOOMERANG DAY IS TODAY! The baby bottles that have been accumulating funds for over a month may be placed in the marked receptables in the narthex. All funds generated will be sent to North Care Women’s Clinic to undergird that ministry’s efforts in the pro-life cause. Thanks for your faithful participation! If you forgot your baby bottle, bring it to the office tomorrow.

PRAYER-POINTERS. Here are two prayer points for this week as we pray for the Gospel Gleanings outreach to the Erukulu people:

  • Thank God that He is Truth, and He sends the Truth of the Gospel to people groups the world has forgotten, such as the Erukulu people. Pray for His truth to disperse false gods and idols.
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to put a love of the truth in the hearts of Erukulu people so they will receive openly and respond eagerly to the message of the Gospel brought to them by faithful workers and evangelists from Glad Tidings India.

SLMT-UKRAINE takes place May 12-20. Location is Mala Vyska, Ukraine, at the Love Cradle Transition Home facility. Work projects await our team’s arrival! Let the church office or Pastor Niederhaus know by next Sunday if you would like to be part of SLMT-Ukraine as airline tickets must be purchased soon. Scott Rittenhouse will help direct the work on-site, while Steve Yagilnicky will be the language facilitator. This may be your best opportunity to experience the wonder of a Ukrainian spring!

IT’S TIME TO PRAY & FAST. Tuesday evening at 7:30pm our time of prayer and fasting begins with an informal service of songs and intercessions. We desire to have continuous prayer going on in the sanctuary from that time through the beginning of the Ash Wednesday service the next evening. A sheet to commit to a time to pray in the sanctuary is on the narthex wall. It has plenty of open slots. Feel welcome to fill in one or two. Ideally, there will be 2-4 persons in each slot. Prayer Guides will be available to help focus our intercessions.

CHILI COOK-OFF IS MARCH 21ST so get busy refining your recipes. Entry fee is $25. You must submit the name of your recipe when you enter. Your entry fee allows you to eat all you want and to cast a vote. For those not entering a recipe, tickets are $10 and you get to eat all you want and cast a vote too. Maximum cost per household shall not exceed $35. Those under 15 can get in for $7, while 5 and below are free. There will be hotdogs and chicken nuggets for children and those who don’t like chili.

HOW DO I FAST? Some folk will not eat anything during our time of Prayer & Fasting. Others may fast for one or two meals. There will be those for whom fasting presents potential health risks, so they may not fast at all. Perhaps there will be those who fast from particular types of food/drink. It could even be that some will take a fast from screen time! How do we fast? It should be a two-part action: 1) fast from food, etc.; and 2) pray to the Lord. It’s time for us to seek the Lord!

LET’S GO TO THE MOVIES! Where? Right here at Leidy’s Church. The Fellowship Committee is showing Aladdin on Friday evening, March 27th. Start time is 7pm, with concessions available. Jammies are acceptable. Admission price is your good name and a promise of good behavior!

THE SOUTHEAST PA SYPMPHONY ORCHESTRA presents Mozart in Paris on Saturday, March 7, in our sanctuary. Starting time is 7:30. Featured organist will be Colin Howland from Tenth Presbyterian Church and sometime organist on the famed Wanamaker organ. It is a ticketed event with $25 for adults, seniors at $20, and students are free. You may get tickets online at www.spso.info or at the door on the night of the concert.

THE SPIRITUAL COUNCIL HAS AUTHORIZED a Service of Ordination for Michael W. Nowling on March 15, 2020 at 5 pm. The entire congregation is heartily encouraged to be present and participating in this joyful and significant event. There will be a reception afterwards in the Fellowship Hall.

LIVING HOPE NATIVE MINISTRIES banquet takes place at Yoder’s Restaurant in New Holland on March 27th. That’s a Friday evening. It begins at 6:30 and will have family style serving of the scrumptious, mouthwatering food for which Yoder’s is justly renown. This is an ideal opportunity to catch the vision that animates LHNM.

FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEON for February happens today. Everyone is invited to stay. The Youth have decided to take responsibility to feed everyone. They hope you hang around and enjoy the fruit of their labors.

THE LEAP-DAY WOMEN’S BREAKFAST is this Saturday at 9 a.m. Since it is being hosted in the Youth Room, please park in the gym parking lot. If you haven’t signed up yet, the sheet is posted on the narthex wall.
