News and announcements from the Immanuel Leidy's Church community.

WITHIN THE FELLOWSHIP:

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Harold Holloway, Kathy Moyer, and Susan Merritt 12th; Tom Leidy, and T. Dale Leidy 13th; Stewart Kendall, and Matt McVaugh 14th; Frank Allebach, Wanda Brunner, Liberty McClaskey, and Bonnie Smith 15th; Justin Gregory 16th; Jim Pluda 17th; Alice Forst, Andy Tawney, and Lillian DiLenge 18th.
  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Brian & Jenny Lafty 12th; Shaun & Meghann Permar 18th.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Christ Gifts His Body for Spiritual Service & Maturity. Do you like to receive a gift? I know I do. I have not heard of anybody refusing a gift. Gifts are usually given on special occasions or in celebration of an achievement. Paul teaches that Christ issues special gifts to believers, so they may accomplish divine works that build up and promote spiritual unity and maturity within the body of Christ. As we examine Christ’s gifts to His Church may we gain more insight about how these gifts are helping us grow by faith in Christ.

A CONGREGATIONAL MEETING is today immediately following the service. The purpose of the meeting is to elect Consistorymen for the 2022-2024 term. The two elders nominated for the 2022-2024 term are Joe Sciacca and Brian Shoemaker. The meeting is also to seek congregational approval to give Consistory the authority to pursue the arrangements necessary for Immanuel Leidy’s Church to be able to sell the property at 276 W. Cherry Lane (old church and Mission House). Any proposal regarding changes to the existing financial arrangements of the property would be presented to the congregation for approval.

SUNDAY IN THE SHADE! Next week our worship service will be held on the parsonage lawn beginning at 10:00. There is no Sunday School or Childcare. Everyone will need to bring their own seating, either a chair or a blanket, if possible. Don’t forget sunglasses—the shade moves!—and you may want a hat and some sun block as well. Park in the church parking lot. Entry to the service will be by foot by the lower/back parking lot area. If you are unable to walk over, drop-off is allowed by car through the parsonage driveway. A simple meal will be provided following the service (hot dogs and sloppy joes, coleslaw, watermelon).

PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT TACOS prayer event this Wednesday, Aug. 11th in the Fellowship Hall at 7 p.m. TACOS reminds us to come to God in prayer with Thanksgiving, Adoration, Confession, while remembering to pray for others and ourselves. We open our time with songs of praise and worship at 7 p.m. and wrap things up by 8:30. Paul the apostle exhorts us to not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Hope to see you there!

THE BELL CHOIR is looking for substitute ringers, which could lead to a full-time bell ringing position. We rehearse on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 7:45 and perform one Sunday a month. If you are interested, please call George Frueh at (215) 723-4769. Thank you.

SAVE THE DATE! The annual Love Cradle Banquet is scheduled for September 25th at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. They will be looking for guests to attend, and also for helpers during the week. Stay posted for details in future bulletins and in the September Newsletter.

WE LOVE TO PRAY FOR OUR KIDS! Each year we do that by matching kids with adults through the Pray Cards. It is time once again to send in your pictures of your children ages 0 – 12th grade. Please drop them off at the office or you can email them to office@leidyschurch.org no later than August 28th. Thank you so much. We value your kids and this wonderful way to connect people at Leidy’s Church.

IN MID-AUGUST a box full of sewing and knitting supplies will be sent to Ukraine for Love Cradle. If you would like to add to that, there is a box labeled “Love Cradle Transition House” in the coat room. Thank you for your donations.

PRAISE BE TO GOD!!!. SLMT ’21 WorthWhile Wear is completed. We thank the Lord Jesus for providing just over 50 individuals to work at the site and in the kitchen during this project. It was a good two weeks with significant variance in temperatures(!), in work force make-up, in particular tasks undertaken, lunches served, and degrees of muscular soreness. The place looks quite different now than it did on July 12th. Thank YOU to all the volunteers (and their prayer and financial supporters) who contributed time and talent and sweat equity to bless and enhance the ministry of WorthWhile Wear. And we thank God for the work of the Holy Spirit among us as we made new friendships and learned the joy of serving as yokefellows in the gospel.

CARDIOLOGIST TODD ALDERFER is slated to be the speaker at the upcoming BMCE Business and Professional Breakfast. It takes place on Thursday, Sept. 9th at the Franconia Heritage banquet facility. Dr. Alderfer will explain how Jesus Christ has had a decisive influence in his life and practice. Tickets are $10 p/person for folk from Leidy’s Church. Beginning at 6:30am, the breakfast will be served buffet style with all sorts of good options. For tickets, contact Jack Parry or John Niederhaus or just call the church office.

ONE WEEK TO DEADLINE for registration for the trip to the Metropolitan Museum on Sept. 9th. Last date to register is August 15. Cost is $100 p/person with $50 required with registration. (Checks should be made out to Leidy’s Church.) New York City’s announced vaccination requirement does not take effect until Sept. 13th, so it will not be in force on the 9th. (Just in case you were wondering!) Departure via Perkiomen Tours is at 7:30am with a return anticipated between 5 and 6pm. Your ticket to view the Medici Exhibit is included in the registration fee. For more information contact the church office or Pat Niederhaus.

GOSPEL GLEANING PRAYER POINTERS

  • The Literacy Program among the Erukula people in India is wrapping up. 450 individuals are now able to read and do basic arithmetic. More importantly, they have learned about the greatness of God and the power of His Word. Like all peoples of the world, the Erukula see the wonders of nature. Now, the Literacy Program graduates can tell others what they’ve learned about nature. It’s summarized in Psalm 119:89-91. Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations; You established the earth and it stands. They stand this day according to Your ordinances, for all things are Your servants. Let’s pray the Erukula students will share this great truth with those around them, and that we will do likewise with those around us.
  • Beginning last Monday and continuing through this Thursday, a significant training event is taking place in Niger through Global Disciples. Reports indicate the Holy Spirit is working among those gathered. In particular, the Lord seems to be impressing on these leaders the importance of extending genuine forgiveness to those who have severely wronged you. Also, these gathered leaders are gaining a vision for reaching other African nations. One man called a friend in Cameroon to share the power of the teachings he’s received this week. Let’s pray for these truths and others to be sealed to the hearts of these brothers in Niger. Also, they specifically ask prayers for their families back home.

PASTORS MASTER REGISTRATION may be accomplished by going online at www.pastorsmasters.org or use the registration form from the Pastors Master brochure and mail your check to Love Cradle International c/o Jack Parry, 527 Hunsicker Rd. Telford 18969. Registration fee is $200 per golfer. The date is Monday, August 23rd at the Indian Valley Country Club with a shotgun start at 12:30. As usual, there will be lots of prizes and amenities, plus the joy of helping support Gospel work among orphans in Ukraine.
