THE SERMON TITLE this morning is Men of whom the world was not worthy? You’re kidding! The first half of Hebrews 11 is populated by figures we’ve come to know and respect, folk who were looking for the city of God. The second half of Hebrews 11 is a different story. It includes folk of questionable status. Nonetheless, they are called men of whom the world was not worthy. How can this be? They sinned; they deserved the wrath of God. How can we celebrate them? Well, though sinful, they had faith in Christ. God worked deliverances through them. We are, thus, thankful for their faith. We need to be responsive to the same grace, for it extends to us as well.
