For someone who never intended to stay at Leidy’s Church, I’ve stayed around for quite awhile. Initially, I was here as the Interim Pastor, which worked well for the congregation as they conducted the search for a new Pastor. It worked well for my wife Pat and me, since we lived about an hour away while I was doing graduate work; we needed some income to help with our family of three kids.
Decades later, we still haven’t left. Somehow the volume of our kids doubled, so we had a household of six kids and two frazzled adults for many years. Now, Pat and I are empty nesters, but we’re grateful our nest still gets ruffled regularly thanks to six (so far!) grandchildren.
Originally from Indiana, I am a graduate of Purdue University and Princeton Theological Seminary. I have worked on a cattle ranch in Oregon, served in Vietnam with the Navy, pastored churches in Indiana and New Jersey as well as here in PA, have been known to explore a battlefield or two, and always look forward to finding the local greasy spoon restaurant in each town that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
Though not converted until I was almost 24, God has given me a deep love for His Word. My primary responsibility as Pastor of Leidy’s Church is to communicate the truths of the Bible to the people of our congregation. Then we work to find out how to implement those truths in all the various facets of congregational life, family life, cultural circumstances, vocational applications, international venues, and personal living. Truly, we think all of the Bible should apply to all of life.
Though I am originally from the greater Philadelphia area, I didn’t expect to minister here. My wife, Joy, and I met as students at Columbia Bible College, in Columbia, SC. We married during my junior year and soon afterwards were blessed with our first child. After graduation, we moved and I worked as a manager in Winston-Salem, NC, where our second child was born. Joy and I served at church and shared the gospel with neighbors, co-workers and friends and witnessed God’s saving grace transforming lives.
In time, the Lord directed me back to Pennsylvania to attend Biblical Theological Seminary (BTS). I worked full-time and part-time jobs to make ends meet. After two years of a very demanding schedule and the birth of our third child, we felt the Lord had directed me into full-time ministry.
Though we were confident about gospel ministry, Joy and I had no idea the variety of places it would lead. We served in urban ministry with Child Evangelism Fellowship in Kansas City and then in Atlanta. Later we joined Youth for Christ Foundation in central Florida to raise funds for gospel ministries to youth nationwide. The Lord eventually led us back again to Pennsylvania to complete my MDiv degree at BTS. When we returned to Pennsylvania, I also became an associate pastor at Immanuel Leidy’s Church. As the associate pastor, I am serving in growth groups, evangelism, shepherding, pastoral care, discipleship, preaching, teaching, AV ministry, and a variety of other activities. I enjoy reading, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
As the Youth and Children’s Pastor, I come alongside parents as they seek to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. While that sounds very formal, I have a great time getting to know the kids of Leidy’s church, helping them understand and apply the Bible to their lives, and leading various youth activities. I recognize the trust parents have put in me to watch over and teach their children and am grateful for it. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I was born and raised in north central Indiana. After majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Purdue University, I felt called to enter vocational ministry. After spending two years leading Bible studies and discipling young men at the University of Arkansas with the Navigators, I found myself enrolled at Westminster Theological Seminary. Throughout my time at seminary and ever since, in one form or another, I have been working to help younger believers follow the Lord.
In the summer of 2013, I married Sarah, a Harleysville native. In 2015, our daughter Naomi was born and in 2016 we settled in Souderton. Since 2017, my family and I have enjoyed life at Leidy’s Church encouraging families to teach their children the good news of Christ in season and out. In my spare time, I chase a golf ball on occasion and learn new ways to keep kids and youth interested in exploration.
