Summer '07

Earlier this spring Glen Tyson made a presentation of the progress of the Building Committee to that point in time. He will be making another such presentation during the Sunday School Hour on September 2nd. The presentation will be part of the Issues and Answers class, so will happen in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to be present for the presentation and for the question and answer time that will follow.

Finally the Building Committee was able to look at some drawings during its two meetings in the month of April. Very preliminary in aspect, the drawings were really more of a footprint to indicate where the general outlines of the building might be, the parking areas, and the main roadway.

The plans as presently drawn up consist of a sanctuary, fellowship hall, kitchen, conference room, and office wing all on one level. Also on that level would be the coat racks, mailboxes, and large bathroom facilities. Directly underneath the sanctuary and office areas would be the Christian Education rooms. With 30+ rooms available for use, our needs should be more than met. The area below the fellowship hall would be open space as it be the “air” space for the gymnasium that is one level lower and directly under the fellowship hall. Also on that level would be the Senior High youth room.

All three levels would have men an women’s toilet facilities of equal size with a total near 15 separate toilets for the women and ample space for the men’s room urinals and stools. Also on all three levels would be a large, hospital size elevator, now required for buildings such as that being proposed.

Nothing is etched in stone at this point, and there are several recurrent problematic areas. For instance, is there sufficient storage space; does the stage in the fellowship hall have adequate ancillary facilities; can a doorway to the kitchen be arranged to connect with an outside driveway to facilitate the unloading of voluminous cooking supplies; where will the choir sit; how will the chancel area be arranged; will the steeple have a bell in it [the youth have voted “yes” on that question]; and much, much more.

But progress is being made. The committee will not meet again until May 29th, but continue to pray for the architectural team as they work on this project.

Oh yes, one other thing: how is your pumpkin seed oil or whatever container doing with regard to the NEW BOTTOM LINE? We’re looking for all of us to participate monthly. During March we had 117 giving units contribute to the Building Fund. It will be great when that number hits 200!
