THE HOLY SCRIPTURES:  Jeremiah 8:18-9:6 (page 762)

                                                      Luke 19:41-44 (page 1048)

                                                      Matthew 5:3-10 (page 960)

A MOMENT of SILENT MEDITATION on the WORD of GOD

      THE SERMON:  “What? Me Mourn?”

*    CONFESSION OF SIN - first in silence and then in unison

C: Almighty God, You are majestic in holiness, awesome in praiseworthiness, and You do great wonders. In other times peoples have heard of Your glory and trembled, sorrow and anguish gripped the souls of men, terror and dread fell upon them. We confess to You our sins, acknowledging the lightness, even the frivolity of our thoughts. We’ve dismissed Your holiness, praised You listlessly, never expecting You to do great wonders, for we saw no need of Your great power. Forgive, we ask, our superficial faith, our unbroken hearts, our wills still bent to our ways of thinking and doing. We desire to be Your faithful, repentant, interceding people, used by You to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are near, and to take it to those far away. Help us, we ask, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*     A HYMN:  #51  I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

*    HEIDELBERG CATHECHISM: Questions 70, 72 & 73

Question 70: What does it mean to be washed with the blood and Spirit of Christ?

Answer: It means to have forgiveness of sins from God, through grace, for the sake of Christ’s blood, which He shed for us in His sacrifice on the cross, and also to be renewed by the Holy Spirit, and sanctified as members of Christ, so that we may more and more die to sin, and live in a consecrated and blameless way.

Question 72: Does merely the outward washing with water itself wash away sins?

Answer: No; for only the blood of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, cleanse us from all sins.

Question 73: Then why does the Holy Spirit call baptism the water of rebirth and the washing away of sins?

Answer: God does not speak this way except for a strong reason. Not only does He teach us by baptism that, just as the dirt of the body is taken away by water, so our sins are removed by the blood and Spirit of Christ; but more important still, by the divine pledge and sign, He wishes to assure us, that we are just as truly washed from our sins spiritually, as our bodies are washed with water.

THE SERMON TITLE this morning is What? Me Mourn? When Jesus spoke the Beautitudes it turned things on their head. From His first listeners on, these simple teachings have caused a blinking of the eye, a redirecting of thoughts, as they bring together what ordinarily are considered to be mutually exclusive realities. So, for this Lord’s Day we find the conjoining of “blessedness” with “mourning.” That’s a stretch for any of us to make. In an era that emphasizes personal gratification to the maximum, how can we comprehend and apply accurately a statement that says mourning is a blessed experience?

WELCOME BACK LIZ SCHATZ, it’s good to have you home again with the congregation of Leidy’s Church. Liz is our Mission Month speaker today. Next week we’ll welcome back Denny Barger.

SPIRITUAL COUNCIL meets this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.

THE FATHER/SON BANQUET of Leidy’s Church takes place this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be a musical and dance presentation by the Lockman Family. Known for their skill with musical instruments of all sorts, they always present a lively and entertaining show. Fill out the insert in the bulletin and place it in the box on the narthex desk.

IF ANYONE WOULD BE WILLING to bake finger-food type desserts to be served during a time of fellowship following the benefit concert by the Lockman family on Sunday, March 14th, please contact Karen Potts at 215-723-9222. The desserts need to be delivered to our church kitchen (clearly marked for the concert) by noon that day.

CINDY FILSON would like to thank the church family for their cards, visits, calls and prayers during this situation. They really mean a lot. Thanks everybody!

MISSION MONTH IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY so make certain you’re present in the Fellowship Hall today during the Sunday School Hour to hear from Liz Schatz. She will be giving a report on her work with Love Cradle at orphanages in Ukraine. This is just one small part of what the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is doing all over the globe during our time of responsible service. It is, nonetheless, a HUGE matter in the life of an orphan on the receiving end of this ministry.

A SPECIAL OFFERING IS TO BE RECEIVED today to help Philip Akol help his older brother in Sudan who needs a particular operation soon or he will die. Philip, one of the Sudanese young men Leidy’s Church sponsored some years ago, is the only family member with some means to help him. Please use a Second Mile offering envelope and mark it “Philip’s brother.” You may place it in the offering plate when the regular offering is received.

CONSISTORY meets this Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.

THE WOMEN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS will resume meeting on April 11th. Enjoy the Missions Month program!

THANKS TO MISSION BRUNCH workers, presenters, attendees, and all others somehow involved. May the Lord Jesus use yesterday’s event in His ongoing molding of hearts and lives of us all.

MISSION MONTH LINE-UP looks like this:

Today                      Liz Schatz with Love Cradle

March 14th             Denny Barger with ministry to Muslims

                                           (& Christians)

March 21st              Steve and Pam Hill preparing to return to Lesotho

March 28th             Betsy Stoltzfus ministering in Spain with

                                    World Team.

HELP NEEDED: We are looking for individuals able to come alongside Pastor Andrew Edmonds and his wife Ann for the next couple of months. At an appointment with her doctor this past week, Ann was told she will need complete bed rest for the remaining two months of her pregnancy. With two little ones underfoot and a husband who is a Pastor, that becomes somewhat problematic, as you can imagine. Here’s what is being put in motion and where you’re asked to help where you can: a sign-up sheet is on the narthex wall to provide meals three times a week; please call the church office to be included on the list of folk available to help with child care when Pastor Andrew needs to be away from home; also, contact the church office if you can help with household chores such as cleaning and laundry for as long as necessary. Thanks in advance!

BE PREPARED when asked about your Christian faith. BMCE is sponsoring a Share Your Faith workshop on Saturday, March 20th. Held at Christ Reformed Church at Indian Creek, this 8:30 to 4 training time will equip you to respond in an accurate, conversational way with the life-transforming truths of the gospel. Registration forms are on the narthex desk. If desired, you may register on-line at http://www.syfonline.org/. Of course, just call our church office for more info, if needed.

LOVE CRADLE BENEFIT CONCERT – The Lockman Family will be in concert next Sunday, March 14th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Penn Valley Church in Telford. The concert is being held to raise funds for the Rainbow of Hope for Ukrainian Orphaned Children hosting program. There is no charge but a free-will offering will be taken. Half of the funds raised that evening will go toward costs accruing to the Lockman family as they pursue adopting the young orphan girl they hosted last summer.

Give Us Clean Hands

We bow our hearts, we bend our knees

Oh Spirit come make us humble

We turn our eyes, from evil things

Oh Lord we cast down our idols

Chorus:

So give us clean hands and give us pure hearts

Let us not lift our souls to another

Oh give us clean hands and give us pure hearts

Let us not lift our souls to another

Oh God let this be a generation that seeks

Who seeks Your face, Oh God of Jacob

Oh God let us be a generation that seeks

Who seeks Your face, Oh God of Jacob

You’re Worthy of My Praise

I will give You all my worship

I will give You all my praise

You alone I long to worship

You alone are worthy of my praise

I will worship, with all of my heart

I will praise You, with all of my strength

I will seek You, all of my days

I will follow, all of Your ways

I will bow down, and I'll hail You as King

I will serve You, I will give You everything

I will lift up my eyes to Your throne

I will trust You, I will trust You alone

Mighty is the Power of the Cross

What can take a dying man,

And raise him up to life again?

What can heal a wounded soul?

What can make us white as snow?

What can fill the emptiness?

What can mend our brokenness?

Brokenness

Chorus:

Mighty, awesome, wonderful is the holy cross

Where the Lamb laid down His life

To lift us from the fall

Mighty is the power of the cross

What restores our faith in God?

What reveals the Father's love?

What can lead the wayward home?

What can melt a heart of stone?

What can free the guilty ones?

What can save and overcome?

Overcome

It's a miracle to me, and it's still a mystery

It's a miracle to me, the power of God

For those who believe

Jesus, Draw Me Close

Jesus draw me close, closer Lord to You

Let the world around me fade away

Jesus draw me close, closer Lord to You

For I desire to worship and obey
